Today, I’m sharing my go-to at-home DIY lip scrub that has completely saved my lips. I use it every few weeks, but during the winter months, when our home heating system kicks in and sucks the moisture from my skin and lips, I find myself reaching for it even more often.

Let’s face it: dry, flaky lips are the worst. They’re uncomfortable, sometimes painful, and don’t look great either. Hormonal changes can also make our skin and lips drier—because, of course, our hormones love to keep us on our toes, right?

But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with a simple, natural solution you can make right at home! The best part? These ingredients are likely already in your cupboard, so there’s no need to spend extra money on fancy lip scrubs.

The Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Sugar: Acts as a gentle exfoliant to slough off dead skin cells without being too harsh.

  • Olive Oil: Packed with antioxidants and deeply hydrating, it leaves your lips soft and supple.

(Optional: Add a dollop of honey for an extra boost of moisture. Personally, I find the two ingredients—sugar and olive oil—are more than sufficient!)

How to Make and Use the Lip Scrub

  1. Mix one teaspoon of sugar with one teaspoon of olive oil in a small bowl until it forms a paste.

  2. Apply the scrub gently to your lips. Let me stress gently here—the skin on our lips is much more fragile than the skin on our face or body. Lightly massage the mixture onto your lips in a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

  3. Rinse off the scrub with cool or warm water. I prefer cool water to lock in as much moisture as possible.

  4. Dry your lips by patting them with a clean facecloth.

  5. Moisturize with your favorite lip balm. I personally use good old Vaseline Petroleum Jelly because it adds an extra layer of protection and keeps my lips moist.

And that’s it! Your lips will feel amazing after this quick and easy treatment.

Why This DIY Lip Scrub Works

This budget-friendly DIY lip scrub saves you from spending $20 or more on store-bought lip products, and the results are absolutely worth it. It’s a gentle yet effective way to keep your lips hydrated and smooth, even during the harshest winter months.
